Representing clients throughout Northern California, The Law Office, Edward P. Dudensing, attorney at law, is highly specialized and operates soley in the following two practice areas:

Nursing Home Neglect and Abuse

Most of us who make the decision to place a loved one in a nursing home assume that nursing homes are operated by individuals who care about the health and well-being of the elderly. In fact, the nursing home industry has become a multi-billion dollar business comprised of major corporations whose goal often is to maximize profitability even at the expense of proper patient care. In an effort to maximize their profits, nursing homes often have staff who are inadequate in numbers and ill-prepared to address the needs of their patients. The results often can be devastating. There are hundreds of thousands of documented cases of elder abuse and neglect in our country every year.

At The Law Office, we are dedicated to providing professional and aggressive representation for victims of nursing home abuse and neglect. Mr. Dudensing is an experienced trial attorney who has taken over fifty trials to verdict. He stands up to corporations that are responsible for the abuse and neglect of the elderly. He has secured millions of dollars for victims of nursing home abuse and neglect.

Nursing home wrongdoing generally falls into one of two categories: abuse and neglect. Neglect refers to a facility’s failure to follow the law in providing basic custodial care for a resident. Neglect includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Failure to prevent and properly treat pressure sores
  2. Failure to prevent dehydration and malnutrition
  3. Failure to prevent falls
  4. Failure to assist in personal hygiene and provide sanitary living conditions

Abuse includes, but is not limited to:

  1. The improper use of physical or chemical restraints on a resident
  2. Battery
  3. Sexual assault

Victims of Crime

More than 24 million Americans are victimized by crime each year. The consequences of crime frequently extend far beyond the criminal act. All too often victims are left with expenses for medical procedures, physical rehabilitation, counseling, and lost wages, not to mention the psychological harm that accompanies being victimized. There are two systems of justice available to hold the offender accountable, the criminal justice system and the civil justice system.

The civil justice system offers crime victims an opportunity to secure what they seek most: justice. Regardless of whether there was a successful criminal prosecution, or any prosecution at all, victims can bring their claims before a court and ask to have the responsible parties held accountable. In the civil justice system, offenders are held accountable, not to the state, but to the victims who suffered the direct impact of the crime. While money awarded in civil lawsuits can never fully compensate a victim for the trauma of victimization or the loss of a loved one, it can be a valuable resource to help crime victims rebuild their lives. Moreover, the exposure to civil liability is a powerful incentive for landlords, businessmen, and other proprietors to enact the security measures necessary to prevent future victimizations.

As a former prosecutor, Mr. Dudensing is intimately aware of the trauma that victims of crime suffer. Upon leaving the District Attorney's office, he chose to represent victims of crime because of his sympathy for crime victims and desire to obtain a civil recovery for them. Mr. Dudensing currently represents numerous victims of crimes in cases of wrongful death, attempted murder, assault, sexual molest, white collar crime and elder abuse, among many others. To his knowledge, Mr. Dudensing currently is the only attorney in the greater Sacramento area who specializes in representing victims of crime.
